The Ouray County Plaindealer published an article this week regarding the Home Trust’s purchase of the six-unit apartment building in Ouray. The article noted the Home Trust’s impetus of the purchase was to preserve it in an effort to keep the tenants — who work in local businesses and some who have lived there for decades — in their homes and to keep the rent affordable long term. As noted by Home Trust executive director Andrea Sokolowski: “If this is sold to, potentially, an investor, these local workforce tenants will be displaced, and you might as well subtract those units from the new upcoming affordable housing that’s being built.” The article also noted that the purchase made the Home Trust the first community land trust in the state to manage rental properties.
